2. Make short term goal for the month on the selected theme.
3. To prepare a plan of action for upcoming sessions, meetings, and events.
Introduction –
Plastic is present in almost every aspect of modern life, from water bottles to aircraft. Without it, our lives
would not be the same. However, it is now considered an environmental evil because of the havoc that
plastic waste wreaks. We see it on our streets, in our rivers and lakes, on our beaches and even in our
deepest oceans.
Many environmental activists are calling for a ban on plastics. However, the very properties that make
plastic so dangerous - its durability and long lifespan - also make it a great asset. A material that will not
die or be destroyed for five hundred years is valuable.
Every day we all hear about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment, ban on plastic bags, impact
on marine life and sea animals, etc. We also know our life is surrounded by plastic items nowadays. It is
very difficult to give up all plastic material and items in a short period.
Why we celebrate Environment Day?
World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on the 5th of June every year and is the United Nation's
principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in
1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine
pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. WED
has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries
annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and
celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.
Theme for 2018
The theme for 2018 was "Beat Plastic Pollution." The host nation is India. By choosing this Theme, it is
aimed that people may strive to change their everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution.
People should be free from the over-reliance on single-use or disposables, as they have severe
environmental consequences. Indian government pledged to eliminate all single use of plastic in India by
2022.
This month on 5
th
June we’ll celebrate “World Environment Day” so we are going to start this first meeting
for the whole month’s plan and actions towards the theme.
Explain about Research
Let us prepare a plan of Action for DAAC for the following week –
1. All members need to collect information about Plastic ban in our city or state.
2. Which materials are banned, and which are exempted from the ban?
3. When was it introduced in our city or state?
4. What are the effects we have noticed in our daily life due to the plastic ban? Mention any 5.
5. Research for a week and collect facts.
